Volleyball

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark fell into fifth place in the NWAC South following a 3-0 loss at region-leading Linn-Benton (25-20, 25-20, 25-12) last week, and a 3-1 loss at Chemeketa (20-25, 25-12, 25-11, 25-22) on Wednesday. Brooke Mayberry had 19 assist and 15 digs for the Penguins against the Red Storm.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark (15-19, 6-6) closes out the regular season with two home matches. The Penguins host Clackamas at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and then hosts Mt. Hood at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 7. The top four teams in the region will qualify for the NWAC Tournament. As of Wednesday, Linn-Benton (10-1) has already clinched a playoff berth. Clackamas and Chemeketa share second place at 8-4, and Lane is fourth at 7-4.

Women’s Soccer

THE WEEK TO COME

As a No. 1 seed, Penguins (12-1-1, 11-0-1), ranked No. 3 in the final NWAC coach’s poll, had a bye in the NWAC playoffs and will host a quarterfinal match against Bellevue at noon Saturday. Bellevue (13-1-3) beat Edmonds 2-1 on Wednesday. The quarterfinal winner advances to the NWAC semifinals on Nov. 9 at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila.

Cross Country

THE WEEK THAT WAS

The Clark men won the Mike Hodges Invitational at Clackamas on Saturday with 37 points over Clackamas (39) and Mt. Hood (44). Clark’s Micah Goff (Union HS) was third overall with a time of 27 minutes, 24.73 seconds on the 8K course. Calvin DuBois (La Center) was fifth, and Aaron Avery (Union) was seventh. The Clark women were led by Nicky Figueras (Ridgefield) with a second-place finish on the 5K course in 21:09.75. Elsa Temme (Hudson’s Bay) was seventh, and Carmella DeSean (La Center) was 10th.

The NWAC Championships are Nov. 10 in Lacey.

The actual season doesn’t begin until later in November, but the Clark men get warmed up with the Clackamas Jamboree on Sunday.
