CLARK COUNTY — On Saturday, 1,373 residents from Clark, Skamania, and Klickitat counties dropped off a total of 3,678 pounds of unused and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications with local law enforcement, pharmacists, coalition staff and community volunteers.

The medication disposal event was held at seven locations throughout the counties, according to a Prevent Coalition press release. The busiest drop site was Kaiser Permanente’s Cascade Park clinic, which served 650 participants who brought in 1,813 pounds of pills and 624 pounds of sharps. All pills were weighed and secured in boxes that will be transported for incineration by the Drug Enforcement Agency.

These numbers were an increase from the take-back event in October 2017, which collected 3,549 pounds of medications and 441 pounds of sharps. There were also 150 more participants this time. More than 825 people dropping off medication were first-time contributors.
