Letter: Push back against teachers

By Frank Krbec, Battle Ground

Teachers getting a 12.5 percent raise in Woodland is disheartening for us who must come up with more taxes to pay the unholy increase that will be demanded by every other district in the state. Where will the money come from? Start with food budgets, utilities, clothing, basics like medical and dental care, home maintenance and on and on. It’s been published that the current average salary of a Washington public teacher is over $55,000. Will raising it to over $60,000 offer a better education for students? It will fuel demands for another increase next year.

America doesn’t take public education seriously. If it did, we’d have a minimum 200-day school year with six or more class periods each day. America ranks at or near the bottom when compared with other modern countries in math and science and language skills. The effort to compete just isn’t there. There should be a pushback to teachers’ unions that would make the old Teamsters union blush with envy. Teachers who strike should be terminated from their jobs.

Washington, with high taxation, is on the path of following California and New York, watching their people flee for other parts. It’s time to say a loud “no” to the greed of teachers and their unions.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
