Max Ault, the Columbia River Economic Development Council’s interim president, will leave the nonprofit group for an administrative job at Washington State University Vancouver.

Ault, previously CREDC’s executive vice president, was appointed interim president in April after Mike Bomar left to be the Port of Vancouver’s economic development director. Ault, who will not be a candidate for the permanent CREDC president’s job, will become assistant vice chancellor for strategic partnerships. His new job is expected to start Feb. 1.

“My time with CREDC has been a career-defining experience, and words cannot express my gratitude to the CREDC team, the board and our amazing network of partners,” Ault, 28, said in a prepared statement. “CREDC has the talent, resources and leadership to continue charting a course that ensures sustained growth and asserts Clark County as one of the most forward-thinking, amenity-rich areas in the country. I look forward to working diligently on the transition through the end of the year.”

Beginning in October, council board chairman Casey Wyckoff will lead a search committee for a permanent president with the goal of hiring someone by the end of the year. Ault will continue serving as interim president through December and will assist the new president through early January, a council official said.

“Since joining the team in 2014, Max has been a champion of CREDC and our business community,” according to a written statement from Wyckoff, principal at LSW Architects. “His ability to collaborate and build strong relationships have helped establish a solid foundation for the organization — earning a strong reputation among our private, public and nonprofit partners. We thank Max for his numerous contributions to CREDC over his nearly five-year tenure and look forward to working closely with him as he wraps up a several major projects for the organization and helps us identify and onboard a new president.”
