For much of today it will be an inside-looking-outside kind of day with scattered showers and a chance of thunderstorms around the region. Rainfall amounts will vary widely as usual with showers and especially thunderstorms. I would expect perhaps a quarter-inch of rain near Vancouver but a half-inch or more under a thundershower. As the day wears on, skies will partially clear and things will dry out this evening.
The upcoming week doesn’t look that bad. We should have night and morning fog and hazy-afternoon sunshine highs around the 70-degree mark. The next chance of showers would be toward week’s end.
A rather large trough of low pressure remains off the coast, but most of the moisture will be shunted by to our north, so just some high or middle cloudiness overhead here.
The National Weather Service in Portland had an interesting discussion for our coastal zones this weekend: “Now for a twist as we have entered Pacific Northwest coastal waterspout season. Conditions are in alignment enough that some showers and thunderstorms may produce a brief waterspout late Saturday into Sunday. If a waterspout forms near shore it could turn into a brief tornado.”
