Letter: Heed will of the voters

I appreciate Port of Vancouver Commissioner Jerry Oliver’s reasoning in voting against the resolution in support of an Interstate 5 Bridge replacement (“Port approves resolution calling for I-5 Bridge replacement — Commissioner Oliver votes no, citing call for transit,” Sept. 12, The Columbian).

As is all too often the case, resolutions and bills are written using generalities which is just another back-door tactic that leaves the door open for politicians and leaders to advance their own agendas and subvert the will of the voters.

My point being, whether we agree with light rail or the death penalty or any other issue, it should concern us all that many of the elected officials in this state (and the country) disregard the voice of the people once they are in office. I’m beginning to wonder why I continue to vote.
