Clark County deputies arrested two people following a pursuit during which the driver turned off his vehicle’s headlights and reached speeds of 70 mph.

A deputy tried to pull over an orange Nissan 350Z shortly before 9 p.m. Monday near the 10500 block of Northeast 63rd Street, according to a Clark County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The Nissan did not respond to the deputy’s activated emergency lights and fled the area, and then the deputy decided to case the car when it appeared that the driver attempted to ram another law enforcement vehicle arriving in the area, deputies said.

The driver headed westbound on 63rd Street and turned south onto Andresen Road, where the chase continued near Northeast Vancouver Mall Drive and 72nd Avenue.

“At some point, the vehicle being pursued had turned off its headlights, was reaching speeds of 70 mph, and disregarding all traffic control,” deputies said. “At this point, the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns for deputies and citizens.”

A short time later, deputies spotted the Nissan on 72nd Avenue north of Vancouver Mall Drive. It had stopped on the side of the road, and the driver and a passenger had ran off.

Passenger Danisha Perez, 26, of Vancouver, was taken into custody shortly after fleeing the vehicle.

The driver, later identified as Oliver San Nicolas, a 25-year-old Vancouver resident, was taken into custody after being located by Vancouver police Cpl. Ryan Starbuck and canine Ivar.

The Portland Police Bureau helped in the pursuit with air support, deputies said.

San Nicolas was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of attempted first-degree assault, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude a police officer and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Both Perez and San Nicolas also face charges of possession and intent to deliver controlled substances.
