Letter: Long is accessible to public

I received a “market research” call asking, among other things, whether I favored Carolyn Long or Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, for my congressional representative. I was read a series of untrue statements about Long’s positions, such as she wants to raise taxes $20,000 per family and get rid of Medicare. After each statement, I was asked if that made me more or less likely to support her. I’ve attended one of Long’s town halls and seen her website so am familiar with her positions. However, many voters are not and could believe these misrepresentations are true.

Instead of holding in-person town halls where her views can be publicly aired and questioned, Herrera Beutler prefers to communicate indirectly. I encourage you to attend one of Long’s town halls and learn firsthand what she stands for.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
