Men’s Soccer

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark (1-4-1) lost at home to Portland 2-1 with Kleon Keang (Union HS) scoring the goal for the Penguins. On Wednesday, the Penguins got their first win of the season, 2-0 over Rogue. Manuel Cabrera and Michael Kimbrell (Skyview HS) had the goals for Clark. Chris Henry (Prairie HS) made three saves in goal for the shut out.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark travels to Eugene, Ore., on Saturday to take on Lane (4-4-0) at noon. The Penguins then have a week off until their next match at home on Sept. 29 against Southwestern Oregon.

Women’s Soccer

THE WEEK THAT WAS

NWAC No. 4-ranked Clark (5-1-0) shut out two opponents. The Penguins beat Portland 4-0 at Hillsboro Stadium on Sunday. Isabelle Bauer (Evergreen HS) needed to make just one save in goal, while her teammates outshot the Panthers 25-3. Penguins goals were scored by Sarah Teubner, assist to Mia Castaneda; Natalie Paul, assist to Teubner; Turner Joy, assist to Judith Nunez-Robles; and Courtney Cutter (Skyview HS), unassisted. On Wednesday, Clark stopped Rogue 2-0. Bauer and Maggie Higgins each had a save in goal. Kayla Sills (Hockinson HS) scored off an assist from Teubner) and Maddie Topaum scored unassisted for the Penguins.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark travels to Coos Bay, Ore., on Saturday to play Southwestern Oregon (0-3-2), then has the week off before hosting Clackamas at noon on Sept. 29.

Volleyball

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark (9-12) went 3-2 at a weekend crossover tournament at Mt. Hood in Gresham, Ore. On the first day Clark defeated Tacoma and lost to Treasure Valley, both matches going five games. The second day saw Clark lose to Edmonds in four, then beat Green River 3-0 and avenge its loss to Treasure Valley with a 3-1 win. Clark libero Mary Schorn and middle blocker Olivia White (Skyview HS) were named to the All-Tournament team.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark opens NWAC South region play with three home matches. The Penguins host Umpqua at 6:30 p.m. Friday, then host Southwestern Oregon at 1 p.m. Saturday, and finish the homestand against Linn-Benton at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Cross Country

Clark did not compete last week.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark joins 10 other NWAC teams on Saturday at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey for the NWAC Preview.

Baseball

Clark announced the hiring of three assistant coaches on Tuesday. Joining head coach Mark Magdaleno for the 2019 season will be Ty Singleton, who has coached at many levels in Clark County; Eric Jones, a hitting and catching specialist; and Chris Gissell, a Hudson’s Bay High grad who has pitched professionally including a brief stint with the Colorado Rockies in 2004.
