Vancouver Fire Marshal lifts recreational burn ban

The Vancouver Fire Marshal has decided to lift the city’s recreational burn ban at 12:01 p.m. Thursday due to the cooler and wetter weather.

Recreational fires, campfires and fires in outdoor fireplaces or chimney-type devices are now allowed, said Fire Marshal Heidie Scarpelli.

All outdoor burning of things like brush, vegetation and garbage is still prohibited within city limits, Scarpelli said.

The Clark County and Battle Ground fire marshals announced Wednesday that they’d be lifting identical burn bans in their areas of coverage at the same time.

All three of the bans were put in place on July 26 due to the region’s protracted heat wave and dry spell.

The Camas-Washougal Fire Department lifted its recreational burn ban last week.

Things have cooled down considerably. Overnight lows in the area are dipping down to about 50 degrees while daytime highs aren’t getting much warmer than 70. That pattern is forecasted through at least Sunday, with a chance of rain showers every day.
