Letter: Tax system leaves us out

I’m not a tax expert but have been paying them since our state used tax tokens. Reading articles on taxes and listening to political commentator Thom Hartmann has given me some opinions that I’d like to share. Give this some thought:

• No federal income tax on anyone or any company making $100,000 or less per year;

• Tax rate for those making over $100,000 would go from 10 percent to 90 percent;

• Business full deduction for wages, medical and equipment replacement;

• Business expenses only 50 percent deduction;

• Social Security and Medicare same tax rate for all payers.

We can control the money our government spends that it has to spend, but when the money goes to big business and individuals, they can do with it whatever they choose and a lot of the time it’s used to buy Congress. Congress can force government to spend for our benefit but when the money is in individual and company hands they spend for their benefit only, and we get left out.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
