Letter: Daybreak has profound impact

The Columbian has rightfully reported that the Daybreak Youth Services inpatient/outpatient treatment center in Brush Prairie for teen boys and girls is currently under investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office for specified allegations of misconduct.

For nearly 10 years, I have been associated with Daybreak, serving a board term, and many years as a life-skills mentor, sharing my deceased son’s story (Darby’s Story) for the teens at the facility and area high schools, about the ravages and consequences of substance abuse.

In my role, I have worked closely with counselors, staff, and management, and offer praise with no reservation about Daybreak’s profound dedication and commitment to transform the precious lives of troubled teens, a legacy spanning 40 years.

Please be assured that these issues are being handled seriously and expediently by management in cooperation with involved authorities.

Respectful of all concerns, kindly reserve judgment that might overshadow delivery of these vital services for our teens, their families, and communities.
