Northeast Hazel Dell — Bobbi Hyrman lost 105 pounds in less than a year through the Washington State University Vancouver Extension Diabetes Prevention Program. Hyrman, an IT help desk specialist, had no experience with a diet program prior, and saw the program advertised in a newsletter at her workplace. “I just wanted to be more active and didn’t think I would actually lose any weight,” she said in a release from WSU. “The biggest change for me was that I cared if I was active and about what I ate.” The program is a one-year lifestyle change program that supports people in making changes to reduce their risk for type 2 diabetes. A trained lifestyle coach leads the program to help people with pre-diabetes change certain aspects of their lifestyle, such as eating healthier, reducing stress and getting more physical activity. The program includes group support from others who share goals and struggles. A daytime version of the program starts Oct. 8. For more information, call 360-397-6060 ext. 5721.
