The public is invited to an April 25 ceremony recognizing Clark County high school seniors who plan to enlist in the armed forces following graduation.

The eighth annual Our Community Salutes event will be in the auditorium at Heritage High School, 7825 N.E. 130th Ave., Vancouver. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m.

The event will feature a vocal performance by Vancouver Police Officer Rey Reynolds and color guard presentation by Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Scheduled speakers include: Julie Bocanegra, president of the Evergreen Public Schools board of directors; Gary Medvigy, a Clark County councilor who served as a major general in the U.S. Army; Rhona Sen Hoss, Southwest Washington regional outreach representative for Gov. Jay Inslee; and Ruth Zhang, an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan.

Refreshments, provided by Costco, will be served after the ceremony.

The Community Military Appreciation Committee is organizing the ceremony. MacKay Sposito, an energy, public works and land development consultant with offices in Vancouver, Pasco and Federal Way, is underwriting the event.
