Sheriff: Inmate dies at Salem Hospital of apparent suicide

SALEM — Authorities say an inmate at the Marion County jail died Sunday of an apparent suicide.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says 31-year-old Thomas Denn of Salem was found unresponsive in his cell at 1:09 a.m. April 6 by deputies.

The Statesman Journal reports the deputies performed CPR and Denn was taken to Salem Hospital. On Sunday, the hospital notified the Marion County Sheriff’s office he had died.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office will investigate Denn’s death.

Denn was arraigned March 6 on charges including eluding a police officer, failure to perform duties of a driver to injured persons, fourth-degree assault, driving under the influence, reckless driving and interfering with a police officer stemming from incidents Nov. 10, 2018 and March 5.
