There is no question that the Interstate 5 Bridge is not capable of handling current traffic capacity. Replacing it with a new bridge (including dedicated public transportation lanes) is needed, but any new bridge will soon be backed up as employers move west of Portland. Therefore, a third route north/south freeway will be needed, serving Hillsboro and Beaverton. A route off U.S. Route 26 in Oregon, at Cornelius Pass Road, either straight across to Northwest 119th Street, to I-5, or travel north along the east side of the Columbia River then east at Lewis River to I-5. There would be no trouble boosting the crossing to allow for tall river traffic at either location.
