The annual Long Beach Razor Clam festival will be held this Saturday, April 20, after the WDFW approved the weekend dig following testing for biotoxins that showed the clams are safe to eat.

There will be three digs in all, April 20-22 on morning low tides. The digs are listed below.

• April 20, 7:58 a.m.; -1.1 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis;

• April 21, 8:42 a.m.; -1.2 feet; Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

• April 22, 9:25 a.m.; -1.0 feet; Twin Harbors, Mocrocks

Washington salmon seasons set

Washington salmon anglers can expect a mixed bag this year. There are increased coho opportunities in the ocean and the Columbia River, but low Chinook returns will constrain some fisheries.

The Columbia River will not open for recreational summer Chinook and sockeye retention this year, due to low expected returns. Fall salmon fisheries will be open with a few restrictions. From Buoy 10 to the Hwy. 395 Bridge at Pasco will open to fall salmon fishing Aug. 1.

Steelhead fisheries in the Columbia and Snake rivers this season will be similar to those in 2017, when a similarly low run was expected.

In Washington’s ocean waters a significantly higher quota for coho, and a similar quota for chinook was adopted compared to last year. Washington’s marine areas will open daily beginning June 22.
