Prep highlights: Prairie baseball hands Mountain View first loss

Prairie scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and held off Mountain View’s seventh-inning rally for a 6-5 upset win over the previously undefeated Thunder in Wednesday’s 3A Greater St. Helens League baseball game.

Mountain View (15-1, 11-1) led through 4 innings before Prairie (5-10, 5-7) scored three runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 6-4 lead.

The Thunder plated one in the seventh on a fielder’s choice by Andrew Gulliford.

Ethan McClintock needed 86 pitches to earn the complete-game win, allowing seven hits. All four fourth-inning runs were earned.

Trey Hebert went 1 for 4 with two RBI and Colin Schiller scored twice to lead the Falcons.

Stars of the day

• Gehrig Hoskins, Heritage baseball, doubled home Aidan Hermansen with go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth, sending Timberwolves to their first win of the season, beating Battle Ground 4-3.

• Kate Sagandorf, Evergreen softball, went 4 for 5 to lead the Plainsmen in a league win over Hudson’s Bay.

• Kellen Bringhurst, Ridgefield baseball, went 4 for 5 with 3 runs, 4 RBI and also allowed one hit and struck out five over four innings in a league win over Woodland.

• Derek Mettler, Columbia River baseball, allowed five hits and struck out six in a complete-game effort in the Chieftains’ league win over R.A. Long.

• Marinella Newell, Ridgefield softball, went 3 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI in a league win over Washougal.

• Izzy Lafata, Skyview softball, had the game-winning RBI single in the sixth in the Storm’s 1-0 league win over Camas.

• Carter Monda, Evergreen baseball, followed up Anthony Tomas’ single with an RBI double for the Plainsmen’s only two hits of the game, sparking a two-run fifth in a 2-1 win over Hudson’s Bay.

• Emma Elliott, Battle Ground softball, went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI in a league win over Heritage.
