First Friday

Art galleries and local businesses celebrate this month’s art shows with a First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver from 5 to 9 p.m. Visitors can enjoy opening receptions and light refreshments at art galleries, after-hours shopping, dining and drink specials, live music and other events. www.vdausa.org

Camas

First Fridays in Camas are themed, family-friendly events from 5 to 8 p.m. when galleries stay open late for artist receptions. Guests can also enjoy after-hours shopping, dining and additional activities inspired by the month’s theme. downtowncamas.com

Pop-Up Art Sales

Art on the Boulevard will host a Pop-Up Artist Studio Sale from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 2, in the courtyard area by the gallery. Artists Denise McFadden, Oleg Ulitskiy, Steve Hill, Ruth Mabrey, Harry Wheeler and Cirith Anderson-Sebree will offer works for sale. Guests can visit the artists and enjoy complimentary light refreshments. Art on the Boulevard, 210 W. Slocum House First Saturday Art Sale, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On the first Saturday of every month from April through October, the historic yellow Slocum House will open its doors for a pop-up art show and sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. These events will feature artwork from Mosaic Arts Alliance. Opening exhibits

“Show Your Colors!” through Sept. 28 with an opening reception 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2 offering live music and light refreshments, is a group show so expansive it spans two months. The exhibit features the oil paintings — from still life to abstract to landscapes — of Northwest Oil Painters Guild members Annie Knight, Ann Radley, Beth Kitselman, Beth Norwood, Bev Birdwell, Bob Fleischman, Cheryl Mathieson and Jackie Lukowski. Also participating are Jim Gola, Jim Toenjes, Lila Martin, Mike Swift, Nancy Knowles, Susan Hall and Wendy Davis. Second Story Gallery, upstairs in the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Melissa Gannon and Gregory Gorham, through August, with a reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 2. Both artists work with acrylic paint to create colorful Northwest nature scenes. Gannon is a plein air artist and teacher whose appreciation for the natural world inspires her work. “Double Vision,” through August with an opening reception 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2. This two-person show features the encaustic paintings of Sheary Clough Suiter and the mixed-media paintings of Nard Claar. Continuing exhibits

“The Seasons Are Changing” and “Elemental,” through the summer. “The Seasons Are Changing” is a series of four classical oil portraits by Rachel Aponte displayed on the building’s first floor. “Elemental” is a collection of round-plate prints by Jenn Feeney created by painting ink on plexiglass and transferring the images to paper, displayed on the second floor. “Arriving at the Water’s Edge,” through Sept. 20, with a free public reception 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 2 honoring the artists.
