Honesty in voters pamphlets should be enforced. Several candidates mislead in their submissions. Justin Forsman, Sarah Fox, and Mike Pond included club and student association positions they held under “Elected Experience,” but those are elected within a private club organization, not a paid elected public office. Dorel Singeorzan mistakenly listed Senior Pastor under elected positions. Including a club elected position may seem like “Elected Experience,” but the intent of the section is to show voters who has been elected to public office.
Adrian Cortes and Erik Paulsen include positions they were appointed to, but not elected to in the “Elected Experience” section. Paulsen had the integrity to point out that he was appointed, but it should not have been entered under “Elected Experience.” Cortes also included educational completion certificates under “Elected Experience.” Again, that belongs under “Education” heading. I’m going to assume Cortes is intelligent and knew that a course completion could in no way be construed as elected experience, therefore it is misleading.
These false listings are meant to beef up nonexistent positions held. The elections office is very strict about other aspects of submissions, but there seems to be no fact checking going on.
