Letter: More safety improvements needed

I am certainly very relieved that 90 percent of traffic accidents have been eliminated on Highway 500. It’s a surprise that we don’t have more accidents since many drive so fast. I totally stay off that highway.

The next project should be overpasses (with no off/onramps) at Stapleton and Falk to eliminate the traffic congestion on Fourth Plain and Andresen. Those main surface streets are certainly taking a toll, especially at 3:30 p.m. and beyond for after-work traffic. It is not unusual to wait through two lights to be able to proceed.

Please start your planning now to correct this congestion because logically, Fourth Plain and Andresen are only going to get worse. Not fixing this problem is not the answer. My office in the ’90s was in that area and at that time, the transportation department said they didn’t have enough money to build overpasses, but they would eventually build them. Ha! Here we are nearly 30 years later, and still we do not have them.

It sounds like we can add overpasses along with a bridge to our list of real safety items that need to be fixed. It is only a matter of time and we will be seeing impatience, etc., on these now heavily traveled streets. I still shop on Fourth Plain. Just go at a more sane time.
