Letter: Transit needed for mobility

By Michael E. McGinley, Washougal
Published: August 29, 2019, 6:00am

I, too, would like to live in a future with free-flowing multilane bridges and freeways, and be able to drive when and where I please. However, financial resources and health limits will not permit it. I have some health issues and may lose my driving privileges, so good public transportation is very important to my future.

Our society can’t rely on petroleum-fueled automotive mobility forever. As a society we are reluctant to destroy neighborhoods to widen highways and to pay taxes for limitless expansion of highways. I’d be happy to see a rail transit link to Portland, even better if it radiates out to several Clark County terminals.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
