Letter: Herrera Beutler comes through

I agree with Tabitha Beattie’s letter to editor, “Long is wrong for Congress” (The Columbian, Nov. 21). Long’s original complaint about Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler was she does not connect with those she represents. I have received over 40 emails from Carolyn Long all asking for donation and not a one defines what issues she does or does not support and her reasoning. I have replied to all of those emails with questions never responded to. All she wants is money, caring nothing about my concerns.

At 87, after my family and I spent hundreds of hours on the phone, door-belling and more for mostly Democrats, we are ignored. It’s time I start ignoring those I helped get elected, who forget us little people. Strange how once they are elected they forget you exist. Good examples are Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell. I spent 10 years trying to get my veteran benefits through them. Finally I called Herrera Beutler’s office. She had her veteran staff member call me and help with the confusing paperwork. Two weeks later, I had my VA card and full benefits. She supported me, and I support her. I am not happy about her support of Trump, but at least she did help me and for that she’s on my good-girl list.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
