Letter: Plan now for light rail

By Mike Burton, Vancouver
Published: December 17, 2019, 6:00am

Manfred Rose is correct in agreeing with Wes Cortright, that planning for the next Interstate 5 Bridge should include the structural integrity to accommodate light rail (“Prudently plan for light rail,” Our Readers’ Views, Dec. 9).

This type of forward thinking was included in the construction of the I-205 Bridge back in 1977 when Clark County commissioners insisted that the bridge be built to accommodate light rail, which it does. As was said, we may not want that now, but for future generations think ahead; one day there could be a light rail link all around the Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area.
