Letter: Live up to oath of office

As an old-time Republican, I find it hard to square with the current bunch. The Constitution of the United States has always been our centerpiece and guide post. Of which impeachment has always been a part, and for a good reason. If you couldn’t fire a corrupt leader then the governing body is open to dictatorship.

Can the current wave of talk-radio conservative politicians pick and choose what they now value in our Constitution? If the Republicans choose to ignore their sworn duty to uphold the founder’s words on impeachment, then do the Democrats get to toss the Second Amendment? Are any fundamental provisions safe anymore?

Senate Republicans’ sworn duty now is to honestly weigh the evidence and, if damning, to impeach. To thus protect and strengthen our democratic form of government. Confirming that no one individual or group is above our sacred Constitution. So, are they two-faced, or not? A most important time to be honest with one’s self-dignity and oath of office.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
