Vancouver-based nLIGHT announced last week that it has been named as the 2019 Prism Award winner for Industrial Lasers. The award comes from SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, in recognition of the company’s Corona fiber laser.

The Corona laser was introduced last September and features a beam that can be adjusted and programmed in real-time, allowing for the laser to be quickly tuned to cut through different kinds of metal in industrial environments.

“Corona exemplifies both the technical excellence and the tenacity of the nLIGHT team,” nLIGHT CEO Scott Keeney said in a news release. “I am proud of the entire nLIGHT team and everyone involved in bringing this innovative product to market.”

nLIGHT was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Vancouver, with additional facilities in Hillsboro, Ore., Finland and China. It primarily manufactures industrial semiconductor lasers for use in a wide variety of industries including aerospace defense and telecommunications and microfabrication.
