Girls basketball: La Center 52, Stevenson 37

Stevenson manged to shut down La Center’s Taylor Stephens but not the rest of the Wildcats.

Mia Edwards scored 19 points and Kylee Stephens had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds as La Center eliminated Stevenson from the 1A district tournament.

Taylor Stephens wasn’t completely shut down with just five points. She also had six blocked shots, eight assists and four steals.

Stevenson (15-8) was led in scoring by Kaitlyn Wenz’s 19 points.

The Wildcats (12-11) advance to the third-place game against Montesano at 2 p.m. Monday at King’s Way Christian High School with the winner advancing to state.
