Camas seeks public input on plan for intersection

CAMAS — The city of Camas is inviting the public to share its thoughts on the intersection of Northeast Lake Road and Northeast Everett Street, as part of the city’s plan to improve the roadway.

The public is invited to an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave.

The intersection, between Lacamas Lake and Round Lake, connects the north and south shores and downtown Camas. Average daily traffic through the intersection has grown to more than 15,000 vehicles, according to the city, following regional growth.

Planning officials hope to address the strain, starting with analyses, planning and public outreach, with the goal of starting construction in 2020, as funding is available.

“The primary goal of this project is to improve intersection safety and efficiency for all users and modes of travel,” the city said on its project website. “The existing signalized ‘T’ intersection is at or near failure and travelers can experience substantial delays in all directions. The study area generally lacks pedestrian connectivity and does not currently include accessible routes between the adjacent recreation areas.”
