An Ariel man was arrested after allegedly shooting at a neighbor’s house and barricading himself inside his own residence Wednesday.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1 p.m. to a residence at 227 Frasier Road. William E. Black, 59, was reportedly shooting in a reckless manner at a home and yelling at the occupants to come outside so he could “blow them away.” Black threatened several times to shoot the family that lives in the home, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

Deputies responded along with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, which was training in the area, and the Lower Columbia SWAT Team. When deputies first made contact with Black, he refused to comply with commands and barricaded himself inside his home, according to the press release.

Deputies then obtained a search warrant, and the SWAT team deployed chemical agents into his home, according to the press release. Black then exited and was taken into custody.

Firearms inside Black’s home and shotgun shell cases near the other residence were found during a search, according to the press release.

Black was booked into the Cowlitz County Jail on suspicion of two counts of harassment-threats to kill and two counts of reckless endangerment.
