It’s time to eat green eggs and ham, for county kids who say “Thanks, ma’am” to volunteers at local schools, then declare “Yuck” or “Green eggs rule!”

It’s another year for Clark County’s most verdant tradition celebrating Theodor Seuss Geisel — more commonly known to you and your kids as Dr. Seuss — with green eggs and ham inspired by the book of the same name. Beaches Restaurant and Bar owner Mark Matthias and a team of volunteers dished up green-tinted scrambled eggs and slices of ham to first-graders at Martin Luther King Elementary School on Wednesday. The beloved children’s author’s 115th birthday is Saturday.

There’s still time for the community to take part in the literary festivities. The Clark College Bookstore is collecting copies of “Green Eggs and Ham” through Thursday. Donors can buy a copy at the store, located on the main campus at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, for $6.85 plus tax. Those copies will be donated to Martin Luther King Elementary school kindergartners on Friday.
