CAMAS — The Skyview boys basketball team may have assumed the road to a potential back-to-back 4A Greater St. Helens League title would come with a few tests.

Friday, they learned that for certain.

Squeeky Johnson had 13 points, Alex Schumacher had 12 and the visiting Storm came back from a third quarter deficit to beat Camas 51-45 on Friday.

“We just want to show that last year wasn’t a fluke,” Johnson said. “We’re coming back to get the league title again … We’re sending a message.”

The Storm (12-3, 3-0), who earned a share of year’s 4A GSHL title with Union, remain undefeated in league. Both teams entered the evening with 11-3 overall records.

The Papermakers led by as many as 11 in the third quarter until Skyview mounted an offensive run to close out the quarter down three.

“We always feel within reach,” Johnson said. “We trust in our coach and his gameplay, stay calm and play through it.”

The swing hit its crescendo when Schumacher rose and dunked a lob from Johnson with one hand over a Camas defender, sending the packed Camas High School gym into a frenzy.

The Storm held Camas scoreless with Schumacher hitting a pair of free throws to give Skyview a 40-39 lead with 4:49 left in the fourth quarter.

Isaiah Sampson responded with back-to-back baskets to put Camas up three.

Then Johnson hit consecutive 3s to put the Storm up three with less than two minutes to play and secured the game-sealing steal with 20 seconds left.
