Esther Short — Magenta Theater will replace its stage lighting system thanks to a grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust of Vancouver. The theater was asked to raise a share of the money as part of the grant process, and has been doing so since January 2018. The new LED system will replace an aging tungsten system, which Magenta will donate to a new theater group in Vancouver. The take-down and installation will take place as soon as the theater’s February mainstage production, “Jeeves Takes a Bow,” closes. The LED stage lighting system will debut in the March production of “Pack of Lies.” “The LED lighting system will significantly reduce energy costs and expand the theatricality of the lighting effects used in productions,” said Tom Hubbard, a Magenta Theater lighting designer. “In addition, it will be a much safer system for the company’s volunteers who design and operate the lighting system.”
