Letter: Congress must do its job

We all know the so called wall on our southern border is a joke as far as being an impenetrable barrier. It is far too easy to go over, under, around or even through it. Every one of the proposed barrier designs, demonstrated at the California test site, was easily penetrated, and once penetrated becomes useless except as a monument to our president’s ego.

Why won’t Mitch McConnell, as Senate majority leader, be a leader instead of bowing to the whims of our president? The Republicans in the Senate need to do their job and pass a bill funding the federal government, as the House of Representatives has done. Send the bill to the president and if he vetoes it, then override his veto and put our government agencies back to work, doing their jobs. It also tells Trump that he no longer has free rein to do as he wishes.

Gosh, it might even make the American people think that our Congress can do the job the Constitution says they should have always been doing.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
