Girls basketball: Prairie 79, Kelso 37

After a just a day’s rest, the Prairie girls basketball team appreciated its depth.

The Falcons rotated 11 players during its 79-37 win over Kelso at Prairie High School on Tuesday night, the day after beating West Seattle, the No. 5 team in the 3A RPI rankings.
“I think it’s nice to have fresh legs come in off the bench, get a quick minute or two then go back in and pick ups the energy again,” Prairie senior Cassidy Gardner said. “We had a lot of energy for the game so if we were sore it didn’t really phase us.”
Prairie outscored Kelso by 19 points in the second quarter to take a 26-point lead at halftime.
Gardner scored all 23 of her points in the first half, including four 3-pointers. Brooke Walling added 14 points, and did most of her scoring int he second half. Haley Reed added 11 for the Falcons, who move to 7-0 in 3A Greater St. Helens League play with an average margin of victory of 46 points.

Natalie Fraley and Capri Franzen led Kelso with 11 points apiece.
