Letter: Prevent influx of immigrants

Your apparent policy of publishing all-Trump-haters-all-the-time is becoming tiresome. Case in point is the Jan. 13 piece by Ann McFeatters, which rehashes every possible reason to hate Trump, just in case any readers forgot one or two of them.

It bothers me that the USA is now supposed to admit anyone who is “escaping poverty,” according to McFeatters. Lemme see, that could include most of the population of El Salvador, Honduras and any of the countries of Central and South America.

Are we supposed to give automatic citizenship to hundreds of millions just because they are “poor”? The Columbian prints these crazy assertions as if they are accepted truth, without ever giving the opposing view. Does this country need a flood of unskilled poor people who do not even speak our language?

Admittedly, Trump acts like a jerk most of the time, but he is trying to stop uncontrolled illegal border crossers, which is the right thing to do. That border has been a crisis for 50 years and Trump is the first president willing to say it, and actually do something.

The USA now has 325 million people. Is that enough? Some think we are filled up. Just try buying a piece of land to build a house on in Clark County.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
