Neighbors pulled a small dog from a Rose Village home Tuesday before fire personnel extinguished a kitchen blaze, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

Next-door neighbors noticed smoke around 1:30 p.m. coming from the one-story house at 3101 S St. They called 911 and rescued the dog before firefighters arrived, according to a fire department press release.

Crews had the fire under control within minutes, and no injuries were reported. The homeowner was gone at the time of the fire, the press release said.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

“Vancouver Fire Department wants to remind homeowners to ensure they have working smoke detectors, and never run back into a burning home,” the press release states.
