SEATTLE — Police say an officer shot and killed a man after he struggled with police at a crowded fireworks show in Washington.

The Seattle Times reports Poulsbo police confronted the man in the middle of the crowd at Waterfront Park on Wednesday evening after getting reports that he was threatening people.

Poulsbo Police Chief Dan Schoonmaker says an officer shot the man during the struggle.

The Poulsbo Fire Department tried to treat the man, but he died from his injuries.

Schoonmaker declined to comment on whether the man had a weapon.

Police did not immediately release the man’s name.

Schoonmaker says many people were nearby when the shooting occurred. The area was cleared afterward.

The Kitsap County Incident Response Team is investigating.
