CENTRAL VANCOUVER — Meals on Wheels People, the Portland-based nonprofit group that serves seniors in Portland and Southwest Washington, was selected by Bank of America for a Neighborhood Builder grant. The grant has been awarded to organizations in the Portland metro area for the last 15 years, but it’s the first time it’s been awarded to a project in Vancouver. The $200,000 grant helped Meals on Wheels People open The Diner Vancouver, a new restaurant that aims to serve senior diners locally sourced food. Revenue from customers will support the Clark County Meals on Wheels program, allowing it to better serve rural parts of the county. “We’re optimistic that this new diner will make a real difference in helping Meals on Wheels People achieve even more financial sustainability, to further expand its resources to address need in Clark County and throughout the Portland metro region,” Monique Barton, senior vice president at Bank of America, said in a news release. The diner, at 5303 E. Mill Plain Blvd., is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Find out more at www.thediner.org.
