On Assignment

Damage Controlman Fireman Luke Langland, from Vancouver, cuts a steel bar in the general workshop aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Carney.

Petty Officer Second Class Edward Schave, a 2011 graduate of Battle Ground High School, is a yeoman forward-deployed at a Navy installation in Yokosuka, Japan. “I enjoy being stationed here because my job allows me to get a little extra time to go to college,” Schave said in a recent press release. His father and grandfather were in the Navy, and his brother is currently serving. “I serve in the Navy to help pass on the legacy,” said Schave.
