Evergreen High School graduate receives scholarship

Jade Samples, recent graduate of Evergreen High School, received a $2,500 scholarship from Northwest Kidney Kids. Her acceptance speech was a letter to her future college self and documents her struggles with chronic illness, hospital visits, dialysis, and high school life. Jade was diagnosed with lupus nephritis in 2017 and is currently on a kidney transplant list. An online auction to raise money for Jade’s kidney transplant expenses concludes on June 16.

Camas special education teacher named ESD 112 regional Teacher of the Year

Amy Campbell, who has taught at Helen Baller Elementary School for the past 12 years, was named 2020 Teacher of the Year for the ESD 112 region. Campbell has been praised for her passion in serving students with unique educational needs, and being a fierce advocate for inclusion and integration.

“I have never seen a teacher be more devoted to ensuring the well-being of her students,” said Camas Superintendent Jeff Snell. “Amy is simply the best,” he added.

Campbell will join colleagues as finalists from other regions for state Teacher of the Year in the fall.
