A driver who allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian Monday night on West Fourth Plain Boulevard was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

Vancouver police were dispatched shortly after 9:30 p.m. to the 1700 block of West Fourth Plain Boulevard, near Simpson Avenue. Emergency responders pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene, according to a police department news release. The person’s identity has not been released.

The driver, identified by police as Nicholas D. Moline, 25, of Vancouver, said he was driving east on Fourth Plain when the vehicle in front of him changed lanes, and he felt a “bump” in the road. When he looked back, he saw a person lying in the road, the news release states.

Moline was taken to a local hospital for evaluation of minor injuries and was subsequently booked into the Clark County Jail. The jail roster shows the vehicular homicide allegation is connected to driving under the influence of intoxicants. Moline is scheduled to make a first appearance this morning in Clark County Superior Court.

The Vancouver Police Department is investigating the crash.
