Letter: We’ve seen this movie before

Do you remember the movie “Canadian Bacon,” where Alan Alda, as the president of the United States, tried to think of a way to guarantee himself a second term when he was doing poorly in the polls?

His solution was to start a “fake” war with Canada that would be covered in the media, with the idea that people don’t want to change horses in the middle of the stream or presidents in the middle of a war.

Does this sound familiar? Except now it’s Trump failing in the polls, and Iran instead of Canada.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
