BATTLE GROUND — Two employees from Battle Ground Public Schools participated in the 123rd Annual Boston Marathon in April. Captain Strong Primary School physical education teacher Sandee Myers and Chief Umtuch Middle School counselor Krista Roadifer traveled to Massachusetts to participate in the 26.2-mile event along with about 30,000 others. It was Myers’ fifth year of running in the marathon. She completed it in four hours, 27 minutes and 10 seconds, taking 37th place in her division. While Myers can apply her marathon experience with students in her gym classes, Roadifer likes to talk to her students about using physical activity to promote mental health. “Sometimes when kids are struggling, I’ll have them write down how they’re feeling both before and after we go on a 10-minute walk,” Roadifer said in a news release. “I want my students to understand that health and fitness doesn’t have to be a chore,” Myers said.
