A Saturday morning fire burned down a shop at a rural home in Washougal.

One of the residents at 37116 S.E. Sunset View Road looked out a window, saw flames coming from the nearby shop and called 911, according to East County Fire & Rescue Chief Mike Carnes. East County Fire & Rescue along with the Camas-Washougal Fire Department and a pair of volunteers were called to the residence around 9:30 a.m. this morning.

Firefighters arrived to find the shop on fire and were challenged by the lack of nearby fire hydrants. Several water tenders were brought in to shuttle water to the residence. The shop was about 100 feet from the house, which was not damaged, Carnes said. The shop, however, was a total loss, he said.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the fire.
