Weather Eye: Soak in some vitamin D and enjoy St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! And as the luck of the Irish would have it, we have a nice sunny and warm day ahead of us. Wearing the green today? With warming temperatures and brighter skies, many shrubs, lawns and plants will be. And those budding flowering trees are showing a bit of pink as well.

We are skating into springtime in the great Pacific Northwest. Hard to realize sometimes while watching pictures of blizzards and massive storms in the Midwest and East Coast this past week. About all we can muster is a wee bit of morning frost on the lawn, which is fine with me. Our mornings should begin to warm as well, as our friend the east wind is back. It will be windy in the usual locations along the Columbia, mountain passes and at the coast.

For those of you who may have made a bet with someone on when our first 60-degree high temperature would be, well, here it is. At exactly 4:07 p.m. Friday, the official high was 62 degrees in Vancouver. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s shoot for 70 degrees. Maybe Monday and Tuesday?

With those easterly winds as they flow down to sea level, the air will compress and warm and help push temperatures upward. Some coastal locations could be 70 degrees or better, and locally as well.

Enjoy the fine weather day, get outside and soak in some vitamin D for good measure. See you on Tuesday.
