Letter: Herrera Beutler does good work

By D. Alton Johnson, Camas

I wanted to take the time to thank Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, for introducing legislation that would make it easier for active-duty Purple Heart recipients to get a home loan. Oddly, disabled veterans can access this benefit that saves them thousands of dollars, but active-duty members can’t. Jaime’s legislation would correct this injustice.

These brave individuals have given so much to this country. Efforts like Jaime’s will eventually get us to the place where the U.S. is finally treating our heroes with the respect they’ve earned. This matters to me because I am a Gold Star father, having lost my son Jeremiah in the war in Iraq.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
