Letter: Building too big for Vancouver

Why do we have to have a 16-story building on our waterfront (“Trendy Timber at chic Waterfront Vancouver,” March 10)? Why can’t they build a 10-story building like they just finished in Portland?

I thought the law in Vancouver was that buildings could be no higher than 10 stories, especially in the flight path of Portland and Pearson airports.

We are not Portland, so why do we need such a tall building? Who is going to rent these apartments? Do we have that many people living in Vancouver that will be able to pay the rent? If so, then build it somewhere besides the waterfront, if it has to be 16 stories. And what about the new Interstate 5 Bridge that is supposed to be built? How high will it have to be to get over the waterfront?

As I said, we are not Portland; but you wouldn’t know it with all the Oregon licensed cars parked in our residential streets that have kids in our schools without paying for it.
