A Lakewood man was killed early Monday on Interstate 5 near Ridgefield when he ran into the path of a semitractor-trailer, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Brian N. Wambaa, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene following the 1:45 a.m. collision in the northbound lanes of I-5 near Milepost 10, according to a WSP bulletin.

The bulletin said Michelle A. Straight, 46, of Sandy, Ore., was driving a 2006 Freightliner pulling a single trailer north on the freeway when a man ran from the east shoulder into her path.

Straight took evasive action but couldn’t avoid hitting the man, the bulletin said.
