Letter: Residents should pay their way

Finally, we are all becoming Washingtonians — even those of us who cling to Oregon licenses and plates, the tax dodgers are losing their free lunch at last.

First, you cannot use that Oregon license in the store to avoid the sales taxes that fund the police you depend upon, as well as fire and other public services. Good. You should be paying for them.

Secondly, now that SB 5362 has passed, you can expect to get cited for your Oregon plates and no one can lower the fines. Good. You should contribute to the streets and freeways you drive on.

Let me be the first to welcome you to full Washington citizenship.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
