The Columbian’s editor emeritus Lou Brancaccio asked Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, if she considers Donald Trump a role model for her daughter, Abigail. She correctly said no, but as all Republican politicians do she landed in the mud saying former President Obama was not a role model either.
To compare Trump and Obama as role models is like comparing Al Capone to Elliot Ness. The difference between Trump’s behavior of infidelity compared to Obama’s sterling reputation as a husband and father is as wide as the Grand Canyon. Trump’s habit of calling people names like a third-grader and Obama’s respect for all individuals is also a very wide gap. Obama paved the way for health care for the poor and coverage for pre-existing medical conditions. Trump is working hard to destroy that. Why would he do that? Simple: uncaring greed. Herrera Beutler’s voting record on this agrees with Trump.
Herrera Beutler needs to rethink what a role model is. That is, if she can.
